The Fairtrade story

Giving back to those who matter most

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. Companies like ours pay sustainable prices so Fairtrade can address the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.

There are over 1.66 million farmers and workers in 1,411 producer organisations across the Fairtrade system and in the UK the FT Mark has 94% recognition and 84% of all consumers trust it to deliver.

Fairtrade sets social, economic and environmental standards for both companies and the farmers and workers who grow the coffee we love. For farmers and workers the standards include protection of workers’ rights and the environment, for companies they include the payment of the Fairtrade Minimum Price and an additional Fairtrade Premium to invest in business or community projects of the community’s choice.

Our involvement

Our Fairtrade Espresso beans combine the Italian love of coffee with our company ethics to give a little bit back to the coffee farmer’s.

The blend is traditionally southern Italian in style with a dark roast down to near the second crack where the oils start to appear on the outside of the bean. Here we can get some real roasted notes coming through. This style of roast coupled with our Fairtrade Robusta coffee beans makes for a strong, punchy brew with a real kick to the back and sides of the mouth. The body is thick and the crema on an espresso just has to be seen to be believed.

We’ve married the Robusta with some naturally processed Fairtrade Brazil Arabica coffee which is sweet, malty and gives a flavour of roasted nuts on the tip of the tongue.

You can be sure that by buying our Fairtrade beans you are helping coffee farmers and their families improve their livelihoods and helping them to invest in next season’s coffee crop!
